In 2018, Bernard Chiu acquired the Harbor View Hotel—an enduring landmark that has overlooked Edgartown Harbor since 1891. Drawn not only to its iconic setting, but to its rich history and significance within the fabric of Edgartown, he was deeply intrigued by the story of the property and its role in shaping the island’s identity.

What followed was not simply a restoration, but a careful transformation—one rooted in a deep respect for the hotel’s architectural heritage. Every decision was guided by the intention to preserve the integrity of the original design while thoughtfully enhancing the property for modern living. Historic details were retained and refined, ensuring that the character and spirit of the Harbor View would remain intact for generations to come.

Today, the Harbor View Hotel is a cohesive collection of ten buildings, including the main historic hotel, The Roxana Building, and eight cottages, together offering 117 guest rooms and suites. Each structure contributes to the overall sense of place—blending seamlessly into the surrounding neighborhood while maintaining the charm and scale of a classic New England coastal estate.

At the pinnacle of the property is the Presidential Skyhouse, a one-of-a-kind penthouse retreat set atop the historic building. Designed as the ultimate private residence, it features expansive living and dining spaces, a private outdoor deck, and sweeping views of the ocean, lighthouse, and harbor—among the most exceptional vistas on Martha’s Vineyard.

Dining is an integral part of the experience. Bettini Restaurant, named after his eldest daughter, offers a refined coastal dining experience, while Behind the View provides a more relaxed setting with shareable plates and elevated comfort food.
