Lake Winnipesaukee Golf Club
Ranked Among the Top 10 New Private Courses in the U.S. by Golf Digest
Lake Winnipesaukee Golf Club is a private, 7,017-yard, 18-hole championship course born from Bernard Chiu’s vision to create one of the finest golf experiences in the country. Set near the southern shores of Lake Winnipesaukee, the course was designed by renowned architect Clive Clark—one of Britain’s most respected figures in the game—to seamlessly integrate with the natural beauty of New Hampshire’s lakes and mountains.
From the outset, Chiu’s intention was clear: to create a course that feels as though it has always belonged to the land. Each hole was carefully shaped to follow the natural contours of the terrain, with elevated tees framing sweeping vistas of the surrounding landscape. Even the cart paths were thoughtfully designed to disappear into the environment, ensuring an uninterrupted visual experience from tee to fairway.
The course quickly established itself on the national stage, earning recognition as one of the Top 10 New Private Courses in the United States by Golf Digest in 2004, and later being named Golf Course of the Year by the New England Golf Course Owners Association in 2007. It has consistently ranked among the top courses in New Hampshire by Golf Digest since its opening.
Lake Winnipesaukee Golf Club has also distinguished itself as a competitive venue, hosting the New England Open in 2005, 2006, and 2007—the first time the championship was held in New Hampshire. In partnership with Sovereign Bank and American Express, the event featured one of the largest purses of any regional Open in the country.
Every detail of the course reflects a commitment to precision and excellence. More than 1,400 computer-controlled irrigation heads—far exceeding the industry norm—ensure immaculate playing conditions, while brilliant white marble sand, sourced from New York, creates a striking contrast against the deep green fairways and fescue.
Today, Lake Winnipesaukee Golf Club stands as a singular expression of vision and craftsmanship—where design, landscape, and play come together in quiet harmony.
